The United States government has attempted to isolate Iran and force it to return to colonial status since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
American activist and radio host Don DeBar told Press TV on Sunday that Iran has rejected US and Western colonial policies and has œinstead insisted on its national sovereignty which is the primary sin that it has committed that has caused the ire of the powers that be in the West to focus on it.”
œIf the US has changed its appetite essentially for imperialism towards Iran, then the possibilities are excellent that relations will improve in fact, not just in appearance,” DeBar said.
However, DeBar warned that Iranians should be cautious in America™s rapprochement because the US may simply be making a œtactical shift” in an attempt to drag Iran back to its œimperial orbit.”
On Friday, US President Barack Obama had a historic conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani by phone.
The phone conversation was the first direct communication between the presidents of the two countries since Iran’s Islamic Revolution of 1979.
The conversation came one day after Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States — plus Germany held a meeting in New York.
US Secretary of State John Kerry also said on Thursday that Washington could begin removing bans on Tehran within months if a œtransparent process is in place” over Iran™s nuclear energy program.
