US drone war 'encouraging Israel, India'

The Obama administrationâ„¢s use of assassination drones in Pakistan and Yemen is Å“encouraging” other countries like India and Israel to follow suit, says Naveed Ahmad, an investigative journalist.

Drone strikes are Å“encouraging some emerging parts like India to use the same tactics and Israel, which is already using it on innocent people,” Ahmad told Press TV on Sunday.

He said that Å“predominantly they [drone attacks] have been violating sovereignty of three to four countries.”

He went on to say that Å“the US administration is basically, is clear now, being guided and led by a hawkish lobby, which is once we used to call Tea Party people.”

The US State Department said on Friday that no timeline could be provided to end drone strikes, just hours after Secretary of State John Kerry pledged to end drone strikes Å“very, very soon.”

During his visit to Pakistan on Thursday, Kerry told Pakistani TV, “I think the program will end as we have eliminated most of the threat and continue to eliminate it.”

“I think the president has a very real timeline, and we hope it’s going to be very, very soon.”

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said at a press briefing that, Å“I have no exact timeline to provide,” adding that, Å“in no way would we ever deprive ourselves of a tool to fight a threat if it arises.”

Washington carries out drone strikes in a number of countries including Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan under the pretext of targeting terrorists. However, most of the victims have been innocent civilians.
