A political commentator says new revelations by a former US drone analyst on the Å“failures” of targeted killings are Å“extremely disturbing.”
In an article published in the Guardian on Sunday, Heather Linebaugh who served in the US Air Force from 2009 until March 2012, revealed how drone operators often have to make decisions to launch a strike based on murky video feeds provided by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
Linebaugh said that the faulty process often results in the deaths of innocent women, children and foreign soldiers and that politicians who defend the program are ignorant to its implications.
Mark Dankof, political commentator and former US Senate candidate, rejected that assertion, saying American officials are fully aware of the number of people killed in drone strikes.
Å“A better explanation is that they know how false” their defense of the program is and are Å“deliberately lying to the American and European publics about the number of innocent people that are being killed by these strikes,” Dankof said in a phone interview with Press TV on Monday.
He added that one Å“sobering” observation about the US targeted killing program is that American officials are Å“creating more enemies for themselves than ever.”
Å“They are not stopping terrorism; they are facilitating terrorism by being involved themselves in these acts of criminality.”
Dankof said that the American people need to be aware of the growing use of UAVs by their government as Å“these drone strikes are in the process of occurring in the United States.”
