At least eight people have been killed and several others severely injured in a strike by a US killer drone in Afghanistanâ„¢s eastern province of Kapisa.

The deadly attack took place in Tagab district of Kapisa Province in the country’s east on Monday.

The death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

Many civilians have lost their lives in US-led strikes and operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past decade, with Afghans becoming increasingly outraged at the seemingly endless number of the deadly assaults.

US officials claim that the airstrikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.

Civilian casualties caused by foreign forces have been a major source of tension between Kabul and Washington.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washingtonâ„¢s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains high in the country.
