‘US allowing Pakistan to keep nukes’

The United States is the only reason why Pakistan is being allowed to have and keep nuclear weapons, says Michael Burns, a political and military analyst.

œThe existence of Pakistan having nuclear weapons could only have been done with the agreement by the US,” Burns told Press TV on Tuesday.

œImagine a little dysfunctional country like Pakistan being allowed to maintain a nuclear weapons policy.”

He went on to say that the US is using Pakistan to serve its interests. œThat™s part of the ugly undergarment of American foreign policy. Pakistan simply is a satellite of US policy.”

On a high profile visit to Pakistan on Monday, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel warned Pakistani leaders that they will lose the US annual aid unless they stop public protests against drone strikes which have hindered US military equipment leaving Afghanistan.

œPakistan has prostituted its existence and its vitality to US interest”, Burns said, this is not inconsistent with the relationship between Pakistan and the United States, he added.

The ties between Washington and Islamabad have been seriously strained over the deadly drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

Human rights groups and Pakistani politicians say the missile attacks often claim civilian lives and must be stopped.

Pakistan™s tribal regions are attacked by US assassination drones almost regularly, with Washington claiming that militants are the targets. However, casualty figures clearly indicate that civilians are the main victims.

Senior Pakistani officials say the raids violate their country’s sovereignty.
