The US has become �œa global hegemon since the end of the Second World War” and most Americans are not aware of their government�™s human right violations around the world, an analyst says.
�œMost Americans have no idea that five to six million people were killed in the so-called Korean War,” Dr. Randy Short told Press TV on Tuesday.
�œMost Americans don�™t know that in the so-called Cold War an excess of twenty five million people died globally in America�™s wars against non-white countries that were seeking to have self-determination, freedom and independence,” he added.
Dr. Short said that drone strikes are yet another indication that the US is continuing its hegemonistic policies today.
Americans do not know how many innocent civilians are killed by US drones as the authorities �œundercount the number of people killed by drones.”
Three members of the House Intelligence Committee recently made an unsuccessful attempt to ban the so-called �œsignature” drone strikes-attacks in which individuals are targeted based on suspicious behavior.
Dr. Short said that Congress has taken an extreme course of action in the so-called war on terror over the past ten years.
�œ[Congress] has allowed itself for whatever reason to go down a very dangerous path of extreme militarism and human rights violation and sovereignty violation of other countries,” he stated.
The United States regularly uses drones for attacks and spying missions in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen among other places.
Washington claims that its drone airstrikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.
The United Nations says the US assassination drone attacks are �œtargeted killings” that flout international law.
