Former British PM Gordon Brown blames the MoD over radiation scandal.
Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has told the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to stop the scandal over the clean-up of a beach found to be contaminated by radiation.
Following the findings of radioactive particles and high-activity radiation at the Scottish coastal town Dalgety Bay, Brown urged the MoD to accept responsibility for cleaning up the beach.
Brownâ„¢s comments come after an inquiry by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) blamed the MoD for radioactive contamination.
Sepaâ„¢s investigation found that the MoD placed a large amount of ash and clinker from a contaminated aircraft at Dalgety Bay, which resulted in the radioactive sources.
The MoD, however, claimed that there were concerns over the “adequacy and validity” of Sepa’s report.
Å“SEPAâ„¢s report makes clear the MoD accepted as long ago as 1990 that as many as 800 radiation contaminated aircraft were dumped at the site,” Brown said, adding that the clean up must begin without hesitation.
