Labour party may back early vote on Britainâ„¢s EU membership.
The UKâ„¢s opposition Labour party has considered supporting an in-out referendum on Britainâ„¢s membership of the European Union (EU) as early as its autumn party conference.
The shadow cabinet is reflecting on a few options, including backing a referendum on the UKâ„¢s membership to be set before the 2015 general election or six months after it.
The Labour partyâ„¢s amendment would suggest a pre-2015 date for the vote.
This would put Conservative MPs in a tight spot as to whether or not to stick with Tory leadershipâ„¢s position that expects negotiations with EU members some time in 2017.
Labour leader Ed Miliband came under pressure form his own party MPs to offer a referendum on Britainâ„¢s EU membership.
A group of Labour backbenchers signed up to a campaign called Å“Labour for a Referendum”, calling on Miliband to do a U-turn on his refusal to offer the British people an in-out vote on the UKâ„¢s relationship with the 27-nation bloc.
