RAF Typhoon fighter jets have escorted a Pakistan Airlines airplane from Manchester Airport to Stansted Airport near London. The Airliner was carrying 297 passengers from Lahore when it was suddenly rerouted back out to the North Sea.
The plane has now landed at Stansted and the airline has
confirmed the emergency landing was for security reasons but there
have been no communications with the pilot of the plane.
Essex police who are responsible for Stansted Airport have
confirmed that there was an incident on the plane and they are
investigating. But early indications from a security source are
that the plane was not subject to a terror attack, Reuters
reports.
The Pakistani plane was due to land at Manchester Airport in
North West England at 1400 BST but was diverted over York and
escorted back out over the North Sea and down the cost to Stansted,
according to spokesmen from the Ministry of Defense and Manchester
Airport.
