Soldier slashes self after Iraq horror

Former British soldier Neil Preece slashes himself across the stomach after Iraq horror.

Former British soldier Neil Preece has slashed himself across the stomach as he suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) caused by violence and tension he experienced in Iraq war.

The 27-year-old soldier said he cut himself during horrifying night terrors when he thought he was fighting in the Arab country.

Preece was trained as a tank driver but after he got to Iraq he found himself serving as a foot soldier. According to reports, he and his team would frequently come under fire.

Preece is among a growing number of former soldiers suffering from the disorder.

He criticized the British government over its negligence and said, Å“I have had no help from the government. I have a black mark against my name at the Jobcentre, which says I am violent and prone to rage”.

Å“They are turning their back on me and the charities are picking up the pieces,” he added.

The US and Britain invaded Iraq in blatant violation of international law in 2003 under the pretext of finding weapons of mass destruction (WMD) allegedly stockpiled by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. No WMDs, however, were ever discovered in Iraq.

At least 179 British troops and one million Iraqis were killed as a result of the invasion and subsequent occupation of the country.
