At least seven people have lost their lives and four others remain unaccounted for after Typhoon Nari hit central Vietnam, authorities say.
High winds and heavy rainfall left at least two people dead and more than 20 others injured in Quang Binh Province, the chairman of Quang Son district™s People™s Committee, Dau Minh Ngoc, said.
On Tuesday, October 15, five others died soon after the typhoon struck the region.
According to the National Search and Rescue Committee, the typhoon damaged hundreds of houses and trees, causing power outages.
Nari hit Vietnam™s coast with winds at the speed of up to 102 kmh (63 mph).
Over the past 24 hours, central Vietnam has had about 140-315 millimeters of rainfall.
About 120,000 people were evacuated and moved to shelters late Monday, Tuoi Tre newspaper said.
Soldiers were deployed to assist people in shelters in Danang, a popular tourist destination in central Vietnam.
Vietnam Airlines was forced to cancel nearly 15 flights, leaving more than 2,000 passengers stranded.
Central Vietnam is often hit during the storm season between the months of July and October.
