Scot MPs criticize ‘going home’ posters

Scottish politicians have heavily criticized the UK Home Office for advertisements that push British immigrants to Å“ask about going home” and seeks to spread information on how they can return to their native countries.

“In my view the campaign borders on the racist. The posters are in an area where most people who go there are African or Asian and to my mind they are there to put fear into people,” said Sandra White, the Scottish National Party (SNP) Member for the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Glasgow Kelvin.

The politician hit back at the governmentâ„¢s attempts to rein in immigration by using posters with slogans such as ”Is life hard? Going home is simple,” which affect immigrants on a personal level, in institutions dealing with asylum seekers.

There has been recently a surge of posters going up around immigration reporting centers in Glasgow and west London urging immigrants to leave.

The posters are part of an anti-immigration campaign, which is already seeing vans drive around London with the message Å“go home or face arrest”.

“I think the whole ‘go home’ campaign has been damaging, and this latest campaign certainly seems to reflect the same sentiment,” Ken MacIntosh, Labour MSP for Eastwood, said.

“It is a shameful attempt to whip up anti-immigration feeling,” he added.
