Anzhi’s defender, Christopher Samba, has left the Makhachkala side’s training camp in Spain without permission after the media reported his possible return to the English Premier League.
“I’m sorry to say this, but he [Samba] didn’t even say goodbye, didn’t explain anything,” Guus Hiddink, Anzhi’s coach, told R-Sport news agency. “No matter what happens, one has to respect the people, with whom he works. Hopefully, the situation will become clear in the next couple of days.”
“Samba started pre-season training with us, but then, suddenly, in the last few days he began contacting with England, despite the fact that he has a contract with Anzhi. Yesterday, he left for England,” he added.
On Tuesday, Queens Park Rangers manager, Harry Redknapp, said he wants to see Samba on his team’s lineup.
But the Londoners’ coach added that he doubts that the 28-year-old will leave Anzhi where he has a four-year contract.
According to the British media, QPR are prepared to part with £10 million for the Congolese defender’s transfer, which is the same fee Anzhi paid to Blackburn Rovers for the player’s move a year ago.
Samba’s act comes a surprise as he always said he enjoyed his stay in Russia in interviews with the local press.
His desire to show his best games and win trophies with Anzhi wasn’t shaken even after he was racially abused during an away game at Lokomotiv Moscow, with a fan throwing a banana at the player.
