Principlist presidential candidate Saeed Jalili has pledged his allegiance to the absolute rule of the Just Jurisprudent, saying following this principle will resolve the countryâ„¢s problems.
Å“We believe that this principle is deep-rooted in religion and is a progressive model. Aside from our belief in this principle, we have experienced over the past 34 years that whenever we have had success and progress we owe it to our following this example,” Jalili said Monday.
He described the absolute rule of the Just Jurisprudent as the Å“authentic Islamic model” which Iran is introducing to the world.
Jalali said, Å“Anywhere we have had shortcomings, anywhere we have had failure, our analysis indicates that it was because we distanced [ourselves] from this model or… deviated from following this model.”
Jalili is facing seven rivals: former Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Velayati, lawmaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, President of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council Hassan Rohani, former First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.
On June 14, Iranians will cast their ballots at over 66,000 polling stations across the country to choose their 11th president. Expatriates will be also able to vote at 285 polling stations that will be set up in their respective countries.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.
