Rockets from Syria hit east Lebanon

Several people have sustained injuries after three rockets launched by foreign-sponsored militants in Syria struck Lebanon™s eastern region of Bekaa, Press TV reports.

One of the rockets landed in an orchard in the town of Labweh, situated over 120 kilometers (74 miles) northeast of the capital Beirut, on Saturday while another fell on the outskirts of the town, causing a fire.

The third rocket landed on a road in Zboud.

œI believe that the Syrian insurgents and their supporters in Lebanon fired these rockets. The attacks are because of the state of desperation they are experiencing after the recent chemical weapons agreement,” said Walid Sukkarieh, a retired Lebanese army general.

œI don™t know if they just taking their frustration out on the Baalbak or the cases are bigger than that. We also don™t know if they aim to destabilize the situation in Lebanon or push Lebanon into a tense situation.”

Officials from the Lebanese army and Hezbollah resistance movement have inspected the scene. They hold militants operating inside Syria responsible for the attacks.

œWe usually expect rocket attacks from Israel and not from Syria. However, we say to these terrorist militants that the rockets don™t scare us, and will not change the style and approach of this region,” said Nawar al-Sahili, a Hezbollah lawmaker.

œThe people will continue to support the resistance as they are willing to give up everything dear for them for its sake,” he added.

Analysts say the rocket attacks by the militants into Lebanon are meant to press Hezbollah to stop its assistance to the Syrian army.

œThe aim of these missiles is to remind Hezbollah that the armed opposition is still active on the other side of the border, and they can attack northern Bekaa because of strongholds of Hezbollah. This is part of the pressure against Hezbollah to withdraw from Syria,” said Elias Farhat, a Lebanese military strategist.
