Repealing the health care law is a top message in several Senate campaigns.
A majority of Americans, who already have health insurance, are blaming President Barack Obama�™s healthcare overhaul known as Obamacare for their rising insurance costs, a new poll shows.
According to the Associated Press-GfK poll, 3 in 4 Americans say the rollout of the controversial Affordable Care Act, which is aimed at increasing the quality and affordability of health insurance, has gone poorly.
In the survey, nearly half of those with job-based or other private coverage say their insurance policies will be changing next year, mostly for the worse. Nearly 4 in 5 (77 percent), blame those changes on the Affordable Care Act.
The poll also shows that 69 percent say their premiums will be going up, while 59 percent say annual deductibles or copayments are increasing.
Fourteen percent said coverage for spouses is being restricted or eliminated, and 11 percent said their plan is being discontinued.
�œRightly or wrongly, people with private insurance looking at next year are really worried about what is going to happen,” said Robert Blendon, a professor at the Harvard School of Public Health. �œThe website is not the whole story.”
In the poll, 11 percent of Americans said they or someone in their household had tried to sign up for health insurance in the new marketplaces and 62 percent of those said they or the person in their household ran into problems.
The risk that consumers could remain in a state of uncertainty as the health law’s coverage expansion begins in January has been a continual political threat to the Obama administration.
The widespread difficulties with the new healthcare law have been one of the main culprits for Obama�™s waning popularity.
