Italy’s biggest defense and aerospace group, Finmeccanica.
Police in Italy have arrested the chief executive of biggest defense and aerospace group, Finmeccanica, as part of a probe into possible international corruption.
Giuseppe Orsi was arrested on Tuesday for corruption and embezzlement in relation to allegedly paid to Indian government to secure the sale of 12 helicopters in 2010.
Orsi had been under investigation for months in a bribery case associated with the €560 million (USD 750 million) sale of 12 AgustaWestland helicopters by the company’s division to India. He had long denied paying any bribes in the case.
Bruno Spagnolini, the head of Finmeccanica’s helicopter division AgustaWestland, was also put under house arrest on Tuesday, following an order issued by the magistrate in the case.
According to Italian media, the two suspected leaders who live in Italy have also been subjected to extradition requests.
More Italian industrial giants have come under investigation over the past few weeks. Prosecutors said last week that they were investigating Paolo Scaroni, chief executive of energy major ENI, for allegedly paying bribes to Algerian officials to secure deals in the north African country.
