A US museum has been pressured into excluding the names of two deceased Palestinian journalists from its memorial ceremony honoring fallen correspondents, Press TV reports.
Pro-Israeli groups were successful in persuading the Newseum museum to drop the names of Hussam Salama and Mahmoud al-Kumi — two al-Aqsa cameramen — from its Journalists Memorial ceremony held in Washington D.C. on Monday.
The two were excluded from a list of 82 other reporters, correspondents and cameraman who died while delivering news from conflict areas.
Salama and al-Kumi were killed during an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip on November 20.
Å“Actually, I think a cameraman looks like a soldier in the war. But, the difference: the soldier supports the government, but the cameraman shows the true point of war,” said Mohammad Salah, an Iraqi photographer.
Free speech advocates criticized the move, which was brought on by Jewish groups and conservatives who said that al-Aqsa is run by Hamas – a terrorist group that threatens the Israeli entity.
This incident reflected ongoing Zionist manipulation in US domestic and foreign policy, particularly influencing Washingtonâ„¢s vigorous campaign to stop countries from declaring their recognition of an independent Palestinian state.
