A senior Iranian official says the issue of Palestine has been among Iranâ„¢s top priorities since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
Es’haq Ale-Habib, Iran Foreign Ministry’s Director General for Political and International Affairs, made the remarks at an international conference on Palestine hosted in Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku on Tuesday.
Å“Iran has never withheld efforts to lessen the suffering of the Palestinian people and has constantly [provided] material and spiritual support to the oppressed people of this land,” said the Iranian diplomat.
Ale-Habib added that Tehran has always voiced support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital, stressing that talks will never yield result with the Israeli regime.
Å“We believe that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should step up efforts for the implementation of its resolutions with regards to Palestine.”
The Tuesday conference was attended by representatives of the OIC member states and other international organizations, including the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council, the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development and the Islamic Development Bank.
The international event reportedly discussed the allocation of USD 500 million in humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in an effort to improve their living conditions.
