Pakistani activists participate in a pro-Morsi rally in the southwestern city of Quetta on August 28, 2013.
Thousands in Pakistan’s restive southwestern Balochistan Province have held a protest rally against the Egyptian armyâ„¢s ouster of former president, Mohammed Morsi.
Chanting slogans against the US, Israel and Saudi rulers, thousands of supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) party in the southwestern city of Quetta also condemned the recent deadly crackdown in Egypt.
The angry protesters accused Egyptâ„¢s military-backed interim rulers of waging a proxy war on Islam on behalf of the West and the US.
The furious demonstrators also censured what they described as the criminal silence of the international community and some Islamic countries on the bloodshed in Egypt.
The protest rally comes as Egypt’s interim government made more arrests of senior members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Egypt has plunged into an unrelenting string of violence since General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the head of the Egyptian army pushed aside Morsi, the country’s first democratically elected president, and declared chief Justice of Egyptâ„¢s Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, as the interim president.
Since then, thousands of supporters of deposed Egyptian president have staged nationwide rallies to demand Morsi’s reinstatement. Hundreds of protesters, mostly Morsiâ„¢s supporters, have been killed or wounded during the violence that has erupted since the removal of Morsi.
The massacre has sparked international condemnation and prompted world bodies to call for an independent investigation into the violence.
