An American political writer says that revelations about the National Security Agency surveillance programs have caused great outrage among the public.
Å“The NSA revelations that every phone call anyone made, every internet communication, every text was being monitored and stored somewhere has created great outrage,” said Sara Flounders, co-director of the International Action Center (IAC)in an interview with Press TVâ„¢s US desk.
The IAC is an activist group founded by former United States Attorney General Ramsey Clark. It supports anti-imperialist movements around the world, and opposes US military intervention in all circumstances.
Å“People feel that their own privacy has been violated,” Flounders said. Å“Many countries now are aware of how much information the Pentagon has on their every financial dealing, on scientific information, on patents.”
Å“This is a big problem for the US, because they have anger, rage, large and small, coming from their monitoring.”
A new report by the Washington Post shows the NSA has conducted unauthorized surveillance of thousands of times on Americans soil since 2008.
An internal audit in 2012 found 2,776 incidents of “unauthorized collection, storage, access to or distribution of legally protected communications” by the NSA in the preceding 12 months, according to documents provided by American whistleblower Edward Snowden to the Washington Post.
