NSA spying affecting US foreign power

The US National Security Agency’s spying programs on all electronic communications across the world are having “big impact on US foreign power,” an analyst says.

“The NSA surveillance program is having big effects for the United States,” Executive Director of Voters for Peace Kevin Zeese told Press TV on Tuesday.

He made the remarks after France summoned the US ambassador in Paris on Monday to demand an urgent explanation over spying activities on French citizens.

The United States monitored more than 70 million French phone calls and recorded some private conversations during a 30-day period, according to a French newspaper.

French President Francois Hollande’s office expressed “profound reprobation,” saying the spying violated the privacy of its citizens.

“We’re seeing France, we’re seeing Brazil, a lot of Latin American and other countries are upset and angry with the United States for spying on its citizens,” the analyst said.

“So, the NSA surveillance program is having major effects around the world as well,” he added.

“These revelations are really shattering. A lot of false images the United States put forward to its people in the world,” Zeese concluded.

Germany, Mexico, and Brazil had earlier asked Washington to explain the NSA surveillance activities in their countries.
