Senior NHS official Mike Farrar has faced resignation calls over his role in baby deaths scandal.
Senior National Health Service (NHS) official Mike Farrar has faced resignation calls over his role in baby deaths scandal, in which 16 babies and mothers died because of poor care at Morcambe Bay health centers.
Farrar, who heads the body representing NHS trusts, was in charge of North West Strategic Health Authority (NWSHA) at the time of the failings at the hospitals.
According to reports, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) is investigating a number of complaints by families against NWSHA. A watchdogâ„¢s spokesperson, however, said the regulator focuses on organizations and not individuals.
James Titcombe, whose nine-day-old son Joshua died at Furness General Hospital, said Farrar Å“has never taken responsibility for his role at the SHA” despite always claiming that Å“the buck must stop with managers”.
Earlier last week, three senior hospital executives behind the cover-up were named by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Former chief executive of Furness General Hospital Cynthia Bower, her deputy Jill Finney and media manager Anna Jefferson were named by the watchdog after public pressure to disclose the individualâ„¢s identities has mounted.
