MI5 warns of threat after GCHQ leaks

MI5 chief Andrew Parker describes GCHQ disclosures ˜a gift to terrorists™.

The director general of Britain™s spying agency MI5 has described the leaked documents on the Government Communications Headquarters™ (GCHQ) surveillance program as œa gift to terrorists”.

Andrew Parker said exposing how the GCHQ intercept voice and internet communications is a œgift” to terrorists, adding that the leaked documents by the National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower Edward Snowden could cause œenormous damage” to Britain™s o-called war against terrorism.

Parker’s comments come after classified documents revealed the GCHQ was secretly accessing the network of cables, which carry the world™s phone calls and internet traffic and has been sharing the data with its American counterpart the NSA.

“It causes enormous damage to make public the reach and limits of GCHQ techniques,” Parker said Addressing the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) earlier on Tuesday.

“Such information hands the advantage to the terrorists. It is the gift they need to evade us and strike at will,” he added.

The MI5 chief™s condemnation of GCHQ leaks was backed by British Prime Minister David Cameron.

œThe Prime Minister thinks it was an excellent speech and we are, as you would expect, always keeping under review the measures that are needed to contribute to keeping our country safe,” said a Number 10 spokesperson.
