Iranâ„¢s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi says the Islamic Republicâ„¢s embassies in Islamabad and Beijing are seriously following up on the fate of three Iranian climbers who went missing in Pakistan last week.
Araqchi told Mehr news agency on Monday that after having made arrangements with Iran, the Pakistani government dispatched a helicopter and a rescue team to Pakistanâ„¢s northern mountain where the trio disappeared.
The official stated that efforts to locate the climbers have so far failed, adding that searching would go on using local people.
Araqchi said the necessary measures are being taken in coordination with Iran Mountaineering Federation and the Iranian embassies in Pakistan and China.
The Iranian climbers lost their way on July 16 at about 7,800 meters while descending from the Broad Peak after successfully conquering it. They had sent a distress call while descending the mountain.
The climbers, identified as Aydin Bozorgi, Pouya Keyvan and Mojtaba Jarrahi, are feared to have run out of food and oxygen by now.
An Iranian diplomat said there is also the possibility that they had strayed toward China.
With a height of 8,051 meters, the Broad Peak is the 12th highest mountain in the world. It is located on the Pakistan-China border.
