'Iran nabs 7 Slovaks for violating law'

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi says seven Slovak citizens have been arrested for violating the Islamic Republicâ„¢s law.

Å“These individuals had come to the Islamic Republic of Iran as tourists, but their actions and behavior was unconventional, and have been arrested by law enforcement officials for violating our countryâ„¢s law,” Araqchi said on Sunday.

He added that the seven Slovaks were also in possession of Å“unconventional equipment.”

”Investigations about these people are underway and, of course, we have informed the Slovak government of this issue and acted in accordance with international regulations and the Vienna Convention,” the Iranian spokesperson pointed out.

On Saturday, Chairman of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said, Å“The detained Slovak citizens violated Iranâ„¢s domestic law and were present in sensitive areas; therefore, they were arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Slovakia’s Foreign Ministry said on June 28 that a number of the countryâ„¢s citizens had been detained in Iran.

Å“Our diplomats in Tehran are in touch with the arrested citizens and the Iranian authorities,” Foreign Ministry spokesman, Boris Gandel said.
