Iran™s First Vice President Es™haq Jahangiri has offered the Iranian government and nation™s condolences to Pakistan over the recent powerful earthquakes that killed hundreds of people.

In a Wednesday message to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Iranian official expressed sorrow over the deaths and injuries of the Pakistani people as a result of the deadly temblors in southwestern Balochistan Province.

On September 24, a quake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck the southwest of the city of Khuzdar in the province.

Over 500 people lost their lives and many others were injured in the quake. The toll is expected to rise further as rescue teams continue digging through the rubble of flattened houses.

Meteorological officials say tremors have been also felt as far away as the Indian capital, New Delhi. Powerful aftershocks later hit the entire region. Reports say the communication systems have been damaged in the area.

Another earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale also jolted the Awaran district of the province on September 28, killing at least 20 people.

The quake-stricken districts face shortage of food, drinking water and medical supplies.

Pakistan™s Balochistan is prone to earthquakes. A similar quake killed 41 people there in April.
