A powerful winter storm has wreaked havoc across much of the US and affected the lives of millions after slamming into the nation’s midsection on Friday.

The icy weather stretching from coast to coast has left at least eleven people dead so far. Hundreds of thousands have been left without power.

In the San Francisco Bay area, Santa Clara County officials said four homeless men died this week of hypothermia.

The mayor of Granby, Missouri was also among the dead when his car veered off a snowy road and struck a tree.

North Texas was especially hard hit, with about 165,000 people left in the dark Friday night. Also more than one-thousand flights were cancelled at Dallas international airport alone, one of the nation™s busiest airports.

More snow, sleet, and freezing rain are forecast to hit the eastern US this weekend, and temperatures will stay below zero in the west, the National Weather Service said.

The freezing rain and stinging winds have also led to the closure of many schools and businesses.

Broad outages were also reported through Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana, local utilities said.
