People gather at the site of a bombing in Pakistanâ„¢s port city of Karachi on July 20, 2013.
Two people have been killed and six others wounded in a hand grenade attack on the office of a political party in Pakistanâ„¢s southern port city of Karachi.
The attack was carried out during the late hours of Sunday in the eastern impoverished neighborhood of Buner Town.
Å“It was a grenade attack that targeted office of Awami National Party (ANP), killing two people and wounding six others,” said senior local police official Tahir Naveed.
Another senior police official, Najeeb Khan, said that two attackers riding a motorbike threw the grenade and fled the scene.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A city of 18 million people, Karachi has experienced a wave of violence and targeted killings over the past few months.
On July 20, two separate bomb explosions claimed the lives of four people and wounded seven others in the city.
Sectarian, political, and ethnic violence has killed hundreds of people in Pakistanâ„¢s main commercial hub so far in 2013.
Karachi is home to numerous ethnic groups. Rivalry between ethnic and political factions has led to clashes in the city over the past two decades.
Since 2001, thousands of people have died in bombings and other militant attacks in Pakistan.
Militant attacks in the country have increased since late 2009.
Thousands of people have also been displaced by the wave of violence sweeping across Pakistan.
