Graham: Bad Iran deal will lead to war

Sen. Lindsey Graham

Hawkish Republican Senator Lindsey Graham says that a bad nuclear agreement between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany would lead to war.

œA bad deal will lead to war and a bad deal is allowing the Iranians the capability to produce a nuclear weapon,” Graham told Fox News on Tuesday.

Iran says it is not seeking nuclear weapons and the UN nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, has reported in its reports that there is no evidence of any diversion in Iran™s nuclear program. At the same time, Iran™s nuclear facilities are under IAEA™s inspection.

Senator Graham also lashed out at US President Barack Obama for planning to ease economic sanctions against Iran.

œIf you back off the sanctions, which the president wants us to do… the international community is going to say, ˜Aha, sanctions are behind us™ and they™re going to race to do business with Iran,” he said.

Iran and the US, Britain, France, Russia as well as China — plus Germany will begin a new round of talks in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday.

The White House said President Obama will meet with Senate leaders from both parties later on Tuesday in order to persuade the lawmakers not to impose new sanctions against Iran.

Last week, White House press secretary Jay Carney warned that imposing tougher sanctions against Tehran could lead to war.

“This is a decision to support diplomacy and a possible peaceful resolution to this issue,” Carney said. “The American people do not want a march to war.”
