Four US airmen dead in England crash

A US Air Force helicopter has been crashed during a low-level training mission off the coast of England, leaving four American airmen dead.

The Pave Hawk helicopter crashed near the east England town of Salthouse on the Norfolk coast, the Air Force said in a statement on Tuesday.

The victims were members of the 56th Rescue Squadron.

According to local police in Norfolk, no one else was injured in the crash.

Å“The crash site is about the size of a football pitch, with difficult terrain which makes this a challenging and lengthy process,” Chief Superintendent Bob Scully said in a release.

Å“This is mainly on marshland although some debris which was close to the beach has been moved as it would be vulnerable to high tide,” he added.

US military officials are coordinating the recovery efforts with United Kingdom police and the Ministry of Defence.

The helicopter, which is a slightly altered version of a Black Hawk helicopter, is often used to assist in search and rescue missions during combat.
