Flash floods kill 13 in NW Pakistan

At least thirteen people, including five children, have been killed after heavy torrential rains and devastating flash floods struck Pakistanâ„¢s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.

Two young girls drowned in the Budni Nullah region on the outskirts of the provincial capital city of Peshawar, three children in Chighor Nullah and another two people in Chitral.

Flash floods also washed away a car as it was crossing a causeway in the Bagh district of the disputed Kashmir region, killing three people.

Another man was drowned in a nearby village, while two young men drowned in floodwater in the Hajira village near Rawalakot.

Peshawar, Chitral, Charsaddah and Nowshera have been hit hard with torrential rains and heavy floods. Many areas remain cut-off since roads and suspension bridges have been washed away.

Life boats are being used by the rescue teams to transport the population from the affected areas to safe locales.

Meanwhile, six people, including two children, have died and several others injured after heavy showers battered Pakistan’s largest and most populous metropolitan city of Karachi.

Three people died of electrocution while a child drowned in a ditch in the Sakhi Hasan neighborhood of the city.

Another child died when the roof of an apartment collapsed in Gulzar Hijri area, and another person was killed in a traffic accident in Qayyumabad district.

Twelve people were reported injured when the roof of a CNG station collapsed in the NIPA Chowrangi neighborhood. People had gathered under the roof to shelter themselves from the heavy downpours.
