‘Few countries safe from US Empire’

A political analyst says there are not Å“many countries that are safe from US Empire” and Brazil could provide a safe haven for former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden.

Snowden sent an open letter to a Brazilian newspaper, offering to help Brazil counter US electronic spying.

Snowden avoided directly requesting asylum from Brazil. However, he said the US will not let him speak until a country grants him permanent political asylum.

Unidentified Brazilian officials have said the country has no interest in investigating the mass surveillance programs by the US revealed in June, and rejects asylum to former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Snowden, the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper reported on Tuesday.

However, Kevin Zeese, Baltimore-based executive director of Voters for Peace, told Press TV in a phone interview on Wednesday that Brazil could be a good option for Snowden because it is one of the few countries which is Å“safe from US Empire.”

Å“There are very few countries safe from US Empire. Brazil might be one of those. Certainly, China and Russia are” countries where the US Å“couldnâ„¢t send in SWAT teams to arrest him,” Zeese said.

Brazil is a Å“good option,” Zeese said, but whether it will accept to grant Snowden asylum or not is not known yet. Å“Itâ„¢s way too soon to say”.

Zeese also said he hopes the world would Å“unite against the United Statesâ„¢ mass dragnet surveillance of telephone calls and internet activity.”

Since early June, documents after documents disclosed by Snowden have shed some light on the scope and scale of Washingtonâ„¢s spying activities across the globe.

US intelligence officials say they may never know the entirety of what Snowden extracted from classified government computers.

Snowden has so far disclosed documents showing that the US government is spying on both American and foreign nationals, including the world leaders.
