Internationally renowned Iranian director Asghar Farhadiâ„¢s Paris-set drama The Past has been selected to open the 36th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF).
The French-language film The Past (Le Passé) is slated to be screened at the opening gala that will be held on November 19, 2013.
Farhadi’s Cannes competition entry will be showcased in the non-competition section of the festival.
The movie has recently received the Best Screenplay Award of the 34th edition of the festival held in the city of Durban.
The Past as an immigrant romantic drama is Farhadiâ„¢s sixth directorial experience and first one in a foreign country that was shot in the French capital, Paris.
The Paris-set tale film garnered two prizes at the 66th Cannes film festival including the Best Actress award that went to Argentine-French actress Berenice Bejo, and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury (prix du Jury acuménique).
The movie has received warm critical acclaim by both French movie goers during its public screening in the countryâ„¢s movie theaters and those ones who followed the film in its premier at Cannes film festival.
