Upper House of Egypt Parliament has decided to resend a bill on political rights to the countryâ„¢s Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) after including a series of amendments in the bill.
Å“The Shura Council approved the remarks of the constitutional court and decided to send the bill back to the court to determine whether it conforms to them,” Shura Council Speaker Ahmed Fahmi said on Sunday.
The amendments were included in the bill in line with the SCCâ„¢s views.
On May 25, the SCC said nine articles of the bill were Å“unconstitutional.”
The provisions of the articles in question were mainly about the use of religious slogans in the course of election campaigns and the rights of Egyptian security personnel.
On December 25, 2012, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi signed into law the countryâ„¢s newly-approved constitution that is based on Islamic law.
Egyptians launched a revolution against the pro-Israeli regime in January 2011, which eventually brought an end to the 30-year dictatorship of former President Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.
