Militants fighting against the Syrian government have fired several mortar rounds into the capital, Damascus, killing a child and injuring several people.

According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, a female student was killed and many others were injured after mortars fired by foreign-backed militants hit two schools in Damascus’ Baramkeh neighborhood on Tuesday.

Militants also fired mortars at a hospital in the area.

Several mortars also landed in Bab Touma, a Christian neighborhood on the east side of Damascus, causing no casualties.

Earlier on Tuesday, at least three people were killed and five others were injured in a mortar attack near the headquarters of SANA in Baramkeh.

Meanwhile, a Britain-based anti-government group has confirmed that the Syrian army has retaken control of Baba Amr neighborhood in the central city of Homs following two weeks of fierce fighting.

Syria has been experiencing unrest for two years and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.

Several international human rights organizations have accused the foreign-sponsored militant groups of committing war crimes.
