Britainâ„¢s NHS needs major changes to avoid failures, health and social care charities say.
Britainâ„¢s National Health Service (NHS) needs major changes to avoid failures and a vicious spiral of poorly planned responses to financial pressures, health and social care charities have warned.
The NHS Confederation, National Voices, and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges said hospitals need to be Å“organized differently”, adding that resistance to change could put the countryâ„¢s healthcare system at risk.
“Tweaking bits of the system in isolation from each other or changing only in response to external pressures will not deliver the long-term change we need for the NHS’s survival,” said NHS Confederation chief executive Mike Farrar.
Jeremy Taylor of National Voices also said British people were “rightly suspicious” of downgrades and closures as “that seem to be more to do with money than quality of care”.
Earlier last month, thousands of protesters poured into the streets of London to voice outrage about the governmentâ„¢s proposed changes to the NHS.
The rally was called after a set of closures and downgrades of A&E departments and other services at London hospitals that led to the massive 25,000-srong march to defend Lewisham hospital.
