UK govt. advisor resigns over tax avoidance tips
A British government tax adviser resigns over tax avoidance tips.
A British government tax adviser has stepped down from his post after he was secretly filmed offering tax avoidance tips.
David Heaton, a member of a panel advising HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on tackling tax avoidance, resigned on Friday after being recorded telling a conference in London on the best ways to œkeep money out of” British Chancellor George Osborne™s œgrubby mitts”.
Speaking at the conference entitled œ101 ideas for personal tax planning” in June, he was filmed by BBC™s Panorama programme telling delegates how they could exploit tax loopholes.
Treasury minister David Gauke described Heaton™s resignation as the œright” decision, adding that his œstatements are directly at odds with the government’s approach to tackling tax avoidance.”
Earlier last year, Business giants Starbucks, Google and Amazon were found guilty of dodging millions of pounds in tax in Britain.
It is estimated that the corporate tax evasion is costing the UK economy something between 45 to 90 billion pounds a year, meaning that it is practically undoing all austerity measures as well as widening the gap between the rich and the poor in the British society.
