Quantico Marine Base in Virginia is in lockdown following a shooting that left one man dead, say US authorities. The gunman, believed to be a marine, is now barricaded inside a building on the base.

Marine Corps spokesperson Agustin Solivan told press that the shooter has been surrounded by Prince William County police and military police. He added that the motives behind the attack remain unclear.

A message posted on the base’s Facebook page shortly after the shooting warned all residents to stay in their homes until the suspect is apprehended.

“Base residents are to follow all instructions being delivered by the Giant Voice System. Please remain inside your homes with your doors locked,” read the post.
