At least 15 people have been killed and many more injured in a wave of violence, including car bomb attacks and shooting incidents across Iraq.
One of the deadliest incidents took place in the city of Madain, south of Baghdad, where a bomb exploded near a football field inside a sports club on Monday, killing at least six people.
In the northern city of Mosul three people including a police officer were killed in separate incidents.
In another development, gunmen opened fire on the family of a policeman killing the officer along with his wife, parents and two young children, who were returning from a wedding in the town of Musayyib.
There has been recently an upsurge in violence across Iraq whose authorities say Qatar and Saudi Arabia have had a hand in some of the deadly incidents.
The United Nations says a total of 1,045 people were killed and nearly 2,400 were injured in violent incidents across Iraq in May while a total of 761 Iraqis lost their lives and 1,771 others were wounded in terrorist attacks across the country in June.
Earlier this month, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moonâ„¢s Special Representative for Iraq Martin Kobler called on the Iraqi leaders to Å“sit together” and address the countryâ„¢s problems, including car bomb attacks throughout Iraq.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said that militant groups and the remnants of the former Baâ„¢athist regime are responsible for the latest wave of violence in the country.
