Scientology lambasted

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

By Caitlin Loughran | As soon as protesters in a local anti-Scientology group, donning Guy Fawkes masks, arrived at the religious group’s temporary Portland office Nov. 1, members of the organization hurried to the windows to close the curtains and blinds.

Armed with picket signs proclaiming the Church of Scientology as an evil cult, the leaderless group, known as Anonymous, spread their ideas outside and around the offices of the religious organization, marching all over the downtown area.

Portland’s group, mostly made of full-time workers and students, is just one branch of the online-based protest organization, which operates and holds protests against the church in cities worldwide.

Although members of Anonymous feel strongly about the practices of the church, it’s nothing personal, they said.

“We have absolutely nothing against their beliefs,” said one masked protester at the rally. “[We] fully believe in the freedom of religion.”

Rather than attacking the ideology of practicing Scientology, the religion that purports mankind carries the souls of alien life forms within, Anonymous members instead attack the religion’s status as a cult that is guilty of exemption from taxes, child labor practices and manipulation of its members, among other alleged crimes.

Protesting regularly, Anonymous members wear masks and bandanas over their faces out of fear of being identified and subsequently intimidated, harassed and discredited as a result of their actions.

Anonymous members believe photos are taken of them after protests, after which members affiliated with the Church of Scientology vigorously collect information about them, including names, phone numbers and addresses, which are posted online.

One man said that someone within the organization found out who he was and left a note on his car threatening to rape him.

One female protester described how her father, a free speech activist, was sued by the Church of Scientology during the 1990s after re-releasing secret “high level documents” on the Internet that the church charges a large sum of money to access.

“One of the very first lessons I learned was that Scientology is bad,” she said. “It’s un-American. I don’t care what people believe in, but you should have a right to know what you are believing in.”

As the protestors marched over a bridge overlooking the freeway near the church’s office, located at 812 S.W. Washington St., some held a yellow banner in front of midday traffic with the words “Scientology = cult,” where it stayed for roughly half an hour before the Oregon Department of Transportation arrived, asking them to take their signage down.

Passersby honked their horns and shouted in agreement with the group’s signs.

“The Portland Police is really friendly with us. They have absolutely no problem [with the protests],” said one protester, who appeared to be in his twenties.

One of the biggest issues that Anonymous has with the church is their suppression of free speech of its ex-members, and the fact that they charge their members for reading materials, videos and services.

Those wishing to join the church that do not have money, said one Anonymous member, join the church staff and work.

“When you go to confession, you aren’t charged to talk to a priest,” the protester argued. “When you ask a Christian about Christianity, they don’t force you to buy a set of books to gain insight.”

Public relations for Portland’s Church of Scientology did not respond to the Vanguard’s attempts at contact before press time.

On a Web site linked from the Church of Scientology’s Web site, www.scientology-portland.org, one book costs about $15, and a basic starter collection will cost $250.

Anonymous members view L. Ron Hubbard, the science-fiction novelist who started the religion in 1950, as the literary failure whose suppressed imagination resulted in Scientology.

Conversely, the church’s official Web site, www.scientology.org, states that Hubbard was a philanthropist and psychiatrist that made important breakthroughs throughout his life.

One protester, a woman dressed in a sailor outfit as a nod to “Sea Org,” the name of elite staff members of the church, said she believes that once you know the “truth” about Scientology, it’s hard to stand by and not protest.

“I’m just a suburban mother with two kids,” she said. “I’d rather be at home with them right now. Some things are so horrible you can’t stand by and watch it happen.”

Caitlin Loughran is a terrible journalist whose obvious bias is unnecessary and inappropriate for an article. This is a hit piece against Scientology. There are numerous errors in this article. When I contacted an editor about this article, I was told that she relied solely on the “Anonymous” terrorist gang for all of her information. Caitlin Loughran is a mouthpiece for “Anonymous” and should be tried as an accomplice when they are convicted for their crimes.

An excellent expose on the cruel and vicious practices of this sect. Scientology is a cult: it abuses recruits through mind games, brainwashing, sleep deprivation, chanting, love bombing and other bizarre methods.

Jonathon is a scientologist who works for their Investigation and spy organization. One of sad jobs is to attempt to censor any scientology information that disagrees with their propaganda.
Just last week they have managed to get a book banned:

    http://digg.com/politics/Scientology_blocks_book_critic_s_book_release

This book was published by a man who escaped from the cult after many years of abuse.
Why does scientology spend so much time and money suppressing the truth?

Chances are, “Jonathon” is Jonathon Barbera, one of a number of pro-Scientology posters who deny affiliation yet infest message boards, newsgroups, YouTube and other venues of communication with their mind-numbing stupidity.

Scientology hurts people. It destroys families. It tries to destroy the lives of its critics. It attempts to crush free speech. Anonymous is awesome. The internet collective finally kicked in to fight this despicable cult.

Jonathon, what “editor” did you contact? The one (you) who edits your lame self published maunderings? See the thing is, Anonymous doesn’t just throw out personal testimonials like Scientologists do. “Scientology saved my life” is not an argument. Scientology hurts people, complete with documented sources, is actually something journalists can use. Personal testimonials are worthless. As a “writer,” I would think you’d understand that.

Jonathon criticises the author for getting all their information from a “terrorist gang”, and reveals himself with that phrase to be a scientologist. He finds no irony in the fact that he has relied for all his information on a *real* terrorist gang - the “church” of scientology.

He says there are numerous errors, yet fails to name a single one.

Jonathan: go to google.com and search “scientology”. Start reading. DO NOT TELL ANY SCILONS YOU ARE DOING THIS OR YOU WILL BE IN *BIG* TROUBLE. Scientology HATES free speech, and HATES for their members to get told the truth.

Free your mind, mate. And don’t take anybody’s word for it. Not even mine. Google.com. Just don’t tell your auditor or the OSA that you are thinking for yourself.

Have you ever considered they could just be having a bit of fun?

Some people spend all of their money on play stations and other things like drugs or alcohol.

If you are poor why not join a stupid cult, put on some stupid outfit and start chanting some stupid words from a stupid book?

So its stupid, its a lot better than some Evil creep who joins a satanic cult and starts having ritual murders isn’t it?

I would be more concerned with the CULTS the elites have joined were they do mock (perhaps even real) murders.

So, let me see if I have this correct, you chaps are concerned that somebody who is poor has all their stuff taken from them and are brainwashed, but not if they are rich and influential and do mock (or real) human sacrifices?

Can anyone see a problem here?

I’m tired of hearing this mealy-mouthed PC nonsense about how “we don’t care what they believe.” I do.

Scientologists believe their cult is destined to rule this planet, and that critics are to be “destroyed utterly.” Yup, that’s what Hubbard said, and they also believe his word was infallible.

They act on those beliefs, often criminally, because they’ve been brainwashed.

Yeah right….If that were true why bother Katie Holmes? Whatever you believe is fine but come on why lie and say you’re not against individual Scientologists? If you don’t believe in Scientology so what, who cares? Nobody is asking you to.
By the way I fully expect someone to attack me personally for this and no I don’t care abut that either.

This is what could happen to you, if you were to take one of their stress tests…..

It is designed in a way that no matter what answers you give, your results will show you are a troubled person and desperately need Scientology to solve your problems for you. I have seen versions of the result sheet that don’t even show positive personality traits, just negative ones.

Most people would be too secure to let the negative outcome bother them. Don’t worry about that, it just means you are not good cult-material.

But with some, they get under the skin. They’ll be offered to do a cheap communications course for example, or one of their other starting courses. Now, they ARE kind of strange courses, as they involve staring into an other person’s eyes for an hour and such.

But some find these courses help them. That, and the lovebombing you’ll receive from the Scientologists, may soften your critical thinking abilities enough to start believing all these stories about super powers that are so prevalent inside the buildings.

So the concept of going ‘clear’ starts sounding attractive to you. 20 Extra IQ points, no longer sick and perfect memory, or any other treat they sense you’d appreciate; you only need to fork out the 50 grand required to get there.

And so you go for it, and soon you’ll receive your first auditing sessions. Not much later, your first encounters with the internal legal system, your first pressure to disconnect from critical friends or family members, your first Sec Check interrogation, your first hard selling to donate a large sum to some lofty goal of the church. The Super Power building for example. Great goal! Never mind they have been building for twenty years and gullible suckers have already donated more than 150 million towards it (geez, where did it all go?)….

Of course you never receive the promised super powers, but by that time you believe that it is your own fault and that you must be the only Scientologist who doesn’t get the promised results.

Now skip a couple of decades and you’ll have arrived in the innermost and craziest layers of Scientology. You have no idea what goes on in there. It’s insane, Manson Family, Waco, Heaven’s Gate type of insane. Running around a pole in the desert all day long in their gulag. Kids locked up in chain lockers. Seriously, that’s the kind of stuff that goes on at the bottom of the rabbit hole. Read counterfeitdreams.blogspot.com for a well-written account of a 35-year inner-circle veteran.

Don’t be fooled by this criminal gang run by a cult…after Hubbard found out how to brainwash people he scripted it all out for others to follow and tinkered with the system for 20 years. Personally, it scares the shit out of me, and I wouldn’t touch a Scilon building with a ten foot stick.

Switzerland: Scientology is not a church.

“The fac-similes saying that scientologists are swindlers do not constitute insults since the church of scientology whas already been convicted in our country for swindle (JT 1994 IV 140)”.

“The fac-similes saying that scientologists are robbers do not either constitute insults. Indeed, Jean-Luc Barbier is trying to get a refund of costs paid for courses and purchase of works he paid since 1989, on the basis of the principle saying that members of the church of scientology who are dissatisfied of its services are allowed to ask a refund of these sums. (p.K.1.32).”

Office of the Examining magistrates of Porrentruy (Canton of the Jura - July 8, 2005)

The Instruction judge has ordered searches. Some pieces related to scientology have been seized. The cult protested against that, speaking of “ecclesiastical secret”. The magistrate refused, under- lining that scientology had not the church’s characters according to the usual sense. No recourse have been undertaken against that decision. Jonathon you are a good example of how dangerous Scientology is.

You show, by attacking the author, that you are following the founders policy “Always attack, never defend”

You are part of OSA aren’t you? You monitor stories on the internet to see if they are talking bad about your Cult, that’s why you got first post.

Wake up! And stop the abuses of this dangerous Cult of Scientology. Stop their child labor, forced rehabilitation, separating family members.

OK, as one of the protesters at that protest, let me say what we mean by “We don’t care what they believe.”

“Xenu, also Xemu (pronounced /ˈziːnuː/ or /ˈziːmuː/), was the dictator of the “Galactic Confederacy” who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of his people to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and killed them using hydrogen bombs. Scientology holds that the essences of these many people remained, and that they form around people in modern times, causing them spiritual harm.”

I really don’t care if they believe that stuff. Same reason I don’t care that Christians believe in the Resurrection, that Buddhists believe in reincarnation, etc. and so forth.

We do care deeply about their actions and how they are supposed to treat people. When we say beliefs, we mean the “religious” aspects of the cult. The fact that they believe in magical space aliens and space cooties doesn’t bother me in one bit.

Their actions fighting human rights? That bothers me a lot.

First, what type of Satanists are you talking about? There is the “evil chanting in a forest with rituals” Satanist, then there is LaVey Satanism. The two are very different.

While I’m personally not going to dispute your claims saying other religions brainwash, guess what? I don’t care about that. I care about what they then do to their brainwashed cultists. I care more about what they do to ex cultists. I care more about that they do to people who speak out against them. I care about what they do to Humanity.

LOL! Someone actually still thinks that the Scientology crime syndicate is some how a “religion.” Amusing! What’s bizarre is that the crime syndicate still manages to have a few remaining customers despite the advent of the Internet and the ease with which people can find out before hand what the criminal enterprise is all about. Got to wonder.

The crime syndicate has maybe 40,000 remaining customers world wide thanks a large part to the ARSCC exposing the crimes and abuses as well as the financial frauds which form the core of the crime syndicate. When Anonymous joined the consumer advocate / human rights advocate effort to dismantle the criminal enterprise, that helped a long way toward freeing a lot of Scientology customers.

Funny that the insane criminals have to close business offices and fall back / consolidate to smaller gigs to try to keep the fraud going. Anonymous and the ARSCC find out immedioately where the violently insane crooks have set up shop once again and turn out at the new shop to resume innoculating people against falling for Scientology’s crimes.

I’m just happy the truth is out in public about the abuses that happen in Scientolgy.
I grew up in Scientology and worked for the Sea Org for several years.
Scientology even censors it’s own members. If you so much as question the actions of the organization you are ordered to a security check that they make you pay for. These can run into 10’s of thousands of dollars.
It’s more about money than anything else.

You really need to think that critics cannot have a coherent thought on Scientology do you? Because if we would, than you would have to accept that what we are saying may actually be correct.

Now, of course we can distinguish between the dangerous belief that a person suffering a psychosis should be kept in isolation (which killed Lisa McPherson and almost killed Martine Boublil earlier this year) and the ‘fair game’/intimidation policies against critics and ex-members.

But, rather than listing examples of fair game here (I did include a page with evidence in my link) I am just asking you this question: How can you support a religion which professes that sympathy is a negative emotion? Snap out of it man, sympathy and empathy are the basis of goodness, not a sign of weakness.

With all my sympathy, I hope you will be able to realise this again one of these days.

Don’t worry about Jon’s ranting Caitlin. The only ones who are going to be on trial are the leaders of Scientology.

I’m glad you did your research on this one. Too many news agencies will just take the canned responses of Scientology and regurgitate them as press releases. While we might joke about Xenu, the real problems are the treatment of those who join and the criminal organizers behind the cult.

It’s all about the money. Celebs and David Miscaivage get a free ride on the money of the members and even use them as servants. This makes Scientology a form of indentured servitude in my opinion… especially the Rehabilitation Project Force. They play, you pay. That’s how the relationship between the leaders and celebs and normal members go and it is sickening. People like Jon here are scilon thugs who go online to bitch whenever there is an article. Notice how he was first in? They usually are becase their job is to type Scientology into google and google news and refresh over and over all day until they see a critical article and go to attack it. There is also Louanne and Terreo as well as a few others like Helios. Google their names and you will see their handiwork in stories with talkback sections like this.

Message to scientologists as written by someone who was there:

    (Translation of sci-talk below:
“SP” = Supressive Person, someone who was kicked out for daring to question Scientology’s teachings.
“Disconnection” = the process of kicking a SP out of Scientology)

I was “in” Scientology for 30 years, as most know. I escaped out of Scientology in 2000. When I left, many people asked me, “How could you be in something like that for so long, and not get it?”

That is when I thought of the movie, “The Truman Show” and began asking people, “Have you seen ‘The Truman Show”? Each time people suddenly got it: THEY CAN’T SEE THE WALLS.

However, I have to ask Scientologists still “in” (who are lurking) — If Truman was able to “Connect the dots” and break free —

    Why can’t you?

Granted, Truman didn’t have “Disconnection”— but in a way, he did. He realized he HAD to find out what was at the other side of that “lake”. (For those who haven’t seen it, it was merely a movie set, all created as a “TV Show”, very similar to Scientology in many ways–re all their abusive antics they do, to keep people “in”).

He really didn’t know, when he took off.

They GREATLY Tried to stop Truman. Did he stop?

No, he didn’t. He made it to the horizon, bumping his boat into a paper wall. DOH!

Are you on a lake where the horizon is *really* just a paper wall?

I hate to tell you this, but YES! YOU ARE.

Are you, Nancy Cartwright, on the same lake? YES! You are.

Do you still want to fork out your millions, or thousands?

AT LEAST HAVE ENOUGH COURAGE TO ***LOOK*** AT BOTH SIDES.

Then make up your mind. All the “Enemies” are more of the show.

All the “SP’s–don’t ever talk to them” are PART OF THE SCIO-TRUMAN SHOW!

LOOK, read, listen, learn BOTH sides—get in your own boat and head across the lake. Don’t believe me: Go on your *own* journey and find out for yourselves!!! ((And ask yourself this, when you cringe at even the thought: WHY CAN’T SCIENTOLOGY SAY LOOK AT BOTH SIDES? WHY DO THEY **HAVE** TO STOP YOU?))

    Quote:

Caitlin Loughran is a terrible journalist whose obvious bias is unnecessary and inappropriate for an article. This is a hit piece against Scientology. There are numerous errors in this article. When I contacted an editor about this article, I was told that she relied solely on the “Anonymous” terrorist gang for all of her information. Caitlin Loughran is a mouthpiece for “Anonymous” and should be tried as an accomplice when they are convicted for their crimes.

It makes me happy that scientologists still call Anonymous, the group of harmless kids - terrorists. In the past, when scientology was tried, were the press tried too?

I have had the opportunity to challenge, both via direct fax and publicly those claiming to be of the higher echelon of Scientology, to a public discussion / debate on the Truths of Life’s Natures and Being and the contradictions which Scientology itself has created with regards to the actual understandings of the individual (now deceased) known as ‘Ron Hubbard’.
No ‘one’ from Scientology’s headquarters, nor the attorney I personally faxed 2/3 times in Florida, responded. Seems like a great opportunity for Scientology to prove me wrong turned into a ‘Great Escape’ from publicity which would in fact be of a extremely negative nature upon their so-called beliefs.
I am always available to publicly debate the World of Scientology.

Yes they are a CULT, Yes they scramble people’s brains, rob them of their earthly possessions and promise salvation and ever lasting life etc etc.

But this is exactly what most other CULTS do too, every religion is a CULT, which is short for CULTURE.

They may be bad, but there are far worse!

Does anybody know how many wars the Catholic church has helped to start?

Does anybody know how many trillions that criminal organisation is worth and how it too uses guilt and brainwashing etc etc an its political influence?

It has only recently been discovered that Scientology is peddled as a religion in the states and is linked to “Common Purpose” in Britain & Europe.

WARNING ! “Common Purpose” is very very bad indeed.

WARNING!!! IF Scientology is closely connected to “Common Purpose” then it IS public enemy number one - without doubt.

Oh right take the mask off so you can Fair Game them and leave them threatening voicemails or poison their pets? The hilarious part of this whole ordeal is that all of you sci-tards got yer panties in a bunch over some 14-20 year old anime otaku kids who post on 4chan. And you recite shit from ED like its some kind of TRUFAX gospel. “There are no black members of Anon?” That’s funny, like the “There are no black goths/emoes/wapanese/furries” myth. Net time you go to a raid to stalk Anons take a look at there hands.

So I guess this “hate group” only protested another hate group to mess with your head and throw you off? LAWL.
