The Fast Company Influencer: worthwhile, MLM, or a waste of time and influence?

In case you have been living under a rock for the past several days, you might have heard about a new “influence” project by Fast Company Magazine to find “The Most Influential Person Online.”

“This is an MLM type pyramid scheme, with the entire goal to collect opt-in email addresses from tens of millions of people, if not more,” stated Issamar Ginzberg, an Award winning Entrepreneur and Advisor to Small Business Owners and Medical Professionals.

“The point of the exercise should not necessarily be about getting people over whom you may have influence just to get them to click to a link when they do not even understand what they are clicking on- just to get yourself a larger image on Fast Company’s cover” he said. “Once you join up and join the influencer project, you are guaranteed a spot on the cover of Fast Company, hopefully large enough so that you can see it. However, if you want to get a larger image and therefore try to get people to sign up in your downline, make sure you are transparent about what the influencer project is.”

Issamar has joined the influence project himself, as a social media study. His page is at http://fcinf.com/v/b9a9/welcome

Issamar suggests that Fast Company work on creating items such as a poster sized blow-up of the cover which many of the entrepreneurs featured will purchase. They can also create a digital decal saying “featured on the cover of Fast Company’s September Issue” which would be put on tens of thousands of sites around the world, giving Fast Company valuable free publicity and backlinks on sites of all kinds across the globe.

Issamar stated “As long as you understand that by clicking on a link, you are joining a viral campaign that is, essentially, ethically harvesting many, millions of email addresses, why not be a part of it? It may just make Fast Company hit the dead center of the target and keep their relevance in a digital world that is changing very fast.”
