A Maryland man allegedly killed himself early Saturday after he shot and injured his 25-year-old daughter, and shot and killed his wife.
The shooting occurred after James Burnham, 51, and his wife, Terri Ann Burnham, 47 walked away from a card game inside their Dundalk home and went to an upstairs room around 3:30 a.m., ABC 2 News reported, citing the local police.
Shawn Vinson of the Baltimore County Police Department said the shooting stemmed from a Å“domestic situation” between the married couple.
But a neighbor said James never had any problems with his family. Å“They pretty much kept to themselves,” the neighbor, Bob Compton, told ABC 2 News.
Earlier in the week, an 8-year-old boy intentionally shot and killed his 90-year-old caregiver after he watched a video game containing violent themes, according to authorities in the US state of Louisiana.
The shooting happened at the Country Breeze Mobile Home Park off La. Highway 67 east of Slaughter shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an interactive project between slate.com and the anonymous creator of the Twitter feed @GunDeaths, the US media have reported nearly 7,500 people have been killed across the US with guns since the deadly shooting in Newtown on December 14, 2012.
Critics in the US blame the notoriously liberal gun control laws in America for the high rate of gun violence in the country.
Slate.com says the actual number of deaths as of 8/24/2013, could be even more – over 22,000, almost three times more than the numbers reported in US media.
