Head of Iran-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group Othman Askin Bak (C) and lawmaker Yusuf Halacoglu (L) greet Iranâ„¢s Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Lotfollah Forouzandeh (R) in Ankara on Friday, May 10 2013.
Turkish lawmaker Yusuf Halacoglu says close cooperation between Iran and Turkey is the key to resolving crucial issues in the Middle East.
Halacoglu, who is a member of Iran-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group, noted on Friday that Turkey and Iran are the only two regional countries capable of defeating the imperialist powersâ„¢ plots aimed at controlling the rich oil resources of the Middle East and Central Asia.
The Turkish lawmaker made the remarks in a meeting with Iran Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Lotfollah Forouzandeh, who is currently on a visit to Ankara at the invitation of Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag.
Pointing to Iran’s progress in various fields of science and technology, Halacoglu said, Å“Iran has faced international threats because of these great achievements, but I believe that the two countries can cooperate constructively to dispel these threats forcefully.”
Forouzandeh, for his part, said his talks with Turkish officials have once again demonstrated the common position of the two countries on a handful of issues.
Å“Bilateral cooperation and solidarity can strengthen regional peace and stability and also contribute to safeguarding the territorial integrity of regional countries,” Forouzandeh added.
According to official data released in November 2012, Iran was the third major trade partner of its northwestern neighbor in the first three quarters of 2012.
