Trey Radel, R-Fla., pleaded guilty Wednesday in a District of Columbia court to a misdemeanor charge of cocaine possession, officials say.<\/p>\n<p>The freshman congressman was sentenced to one year probation by Superior Court Judge Robert S. Tignor, The Washington Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>Radel was indicted Tuesday on a charge he &#8220;unlawfully, knowingly and intentionally possessed&#8221; cocaine he purchased from an undercover agent at a Washington restaurant Oct. 29.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said Radel and a friend bought 3.5 grams of cocaine for $250 while they sat in the agent&#8217;s car. When the transaction was completed, agents stormed the car and Radel dropped the drugs. Officers found a vial of cocaine when they searched his apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Radel told the judge he was seeking counseling. If he violates his probation, Radel will have to serve 180 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>He also had to pay a $250 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Radel, 37, was elected to Congress last November with 63 percent of the vote in the 19th Congressional district in southwest Florida.
