{"id":66069,"date":"2013-09-05T21:40:05","date_gmt":"2013-09-05T20:40:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/food-insecurity-hunger-plague-us-at-record-levels\/66069\/"},"modified":"2013-09-05T23:58:54","modified_gmt":"2013-09-05T22:58:54","slug":"food-insecurity-hunger-plague-us-at-record-levels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/food-insecurity-hunger-plague-us-at-record-levels\/","title":{"rendered":"Food Insecurity, Hunger Plague US at Record Levels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Food insecurity in the United States remains at record levels for the 5th year in a row, with 17.6 million households having difficulty feeding their families, and 7 million of these suffering from &#8220;very low food security&#8221; that forced them to go hungry in 2012, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ers.usda.gov\/publications\/err-economic-research-report\/err155.aspx#.UijefLy_SUc\" target=\"_blank\">new report<\/a> by the U.S. Department of Agriculture reveals.<\/p>\n<p>A shocking 14.5 percent of all U.S. households\u2013amounting to 49 million people\u2013suffered food insecurity in 2012, with poor households, &#8220;households with children headed by single women or single men,&#8221; and African American and Hispanic households hardest hit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[W]hat we&#8217;re seeing are a lot of working families that are unable to make ends meet.
