When a disaster strikes unexpectedly, there\u2019s nearly always some kind of monkey wrench that causes your\u00a0well-thought-out prepper plans<\/a>\u00a0to work less effectively than expected. \u00a0When describing the situation, the person says sheepishly, \u201cNormally we wouldn\u2019t have had X circumstance going on when it happened, and our preps would have worked just fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Or, in the eloquent words of Mike Tyson, \u201cEveryone\u2019s got a plan \u2019til they get punched in the mouth<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

But, variables.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s just the thing. There is\u00a0nearly always<\/em>\u00a0going to be a variable that doesn\u2019t fall neatly into your imagined scenario. Your ability to roll with that is the truest test of your preps and indeed, your overall level of preparedness. It is more valid than any number of planned practice runs.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong. Planned practice runs are great and are a valuable\u00a0technique to enhance your level of preparedness. But be honest \u2013 you nearly always do a little something extra to prepare for a practice run. Perhaps you make an extra trip to the store. Maybe you just got a brand new prep that you want to test out, inspiring the practice run that is a perfect scenario for the use of that prep.

But\u2026disasters do not wait for the perfect time and circumstances. \u00a0They don\u2019t always indicate their arrival and allow enough time for a trip to the store. (At least not a trip to the store during which \u00a0everyone else in your geographic vicinity is competing for the same supplies.)<\/p>\n

Realizing this can take your preparedness to the next level.<\/p>\n
