A subsequent journalistic investigation however, revealed her ties to a local mosque, whose leader reportedly glorified Daesh* and even tried to raise funds for the terrorists.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Swedish town of\u00a0G\u00e4vle has placed a Muslim woman in\u00a0a veil on\u00a0its digital advertising billboard in\u00a0order to\u00a0welcome visitors, the Swedish news outlet <em><a href=\"https:\/\/nyheteridag.se\/kvinna-i-sloja-pa-gavles-valkomstskylt-hon-har-sjalv-valt-att-bara-huvudbonaden-hijab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nyheter Idag<\/a> <\/em>reported. The billboard is located at\u00a0the northern entrance to\u00a0G\u00e4vle.<\/p>\n<p>Johan Adolfsson, communications manager in\u00a0G\u00e4vle municipality explained that the woman on\u00a0the sign is \u201cone of\u00a0G\u00e4vle\u2019s many Muslim women\u201d, stressing that her appearance on\u00a0the welcome sign emphasised the town\u2019s \u201cgreat diversity\u201d. According to\u00a0Adolfsson, 120 languages are currently spoken in\u00a0G\u00e4vle.<\/p>\n<p>However, this diversity push has caused a backlash from\u00a0politicians and ordinary Swedes alike, including people of\u00a0immigrant decent, whom the veil was meant to\u00a0represent.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning, some Swedish web users couldn\u2019t even believe their eyes and claimed that the hijabi welcome sign was photoshopped in\u00a0order to\u00a0create a stir. However, a video uploaded by\u00a0a local man showed that it is indeed real.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"adaptive-iframe\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmikael.svensson.545%2Fvideos%2F2267715329946444%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=640\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-ratio=\"0.5625\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Sweden Democrat MP Roger Hedlund, who is part of\u00a0G\u00e4vle City Council, is highly critical of\u00a0the ad for\u00a0what it represents. He argued that a garment that for\u00a0many women implies oppression and a lack of\u00a0freedom shouldn\u2019t be legitimized in\u00a0any way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\">\u201cOne should think what this is signalling. Some indeed use this garment, the hijab, voluntarily. But not everyone.
