Many have noted WikiLeaks\u2019 contribution to the politicisation of their generation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageFull\" style=\"width:480px; oveflow:hidden;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/asset\/4b3e5295-991e-41e2-a024-a71e394533cN\/image.png?rendition=image480\" srcset=\"\/asset\/4b3e5295-991e-41e2-a024-a71e394533cN\/image.png?rendition=image960 2x\" width=\"480\" style=\"width:480px;\" \/><span>A student in discussion with an IYSSE member<\/span><\/div>\n<p>The sentiments stand in stark contrast to the role of successive Australian governments in the US-led vendetta against Assange. They also stand as an indictment of the organisations that have abandoned WikiLeaks and Assange, including the trade unions, the Greens and pseudo-left parties such as Socialist Alternative.<\/p>\n<p>The International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE), the youth wing of the Socialist Equality Party, has been the only student organisation raising the persecution of Assange, and the related drive to war and authoritarianism, at orientation week events.<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageRight\" style=\"width:200px; oveflow:hidden;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/asset\/0ab27d88-9369-4ad1-8de4-6445e1147b7L\/image.png?rendition=image480\" srcset=\"\/asset\/0ab27d88-9369-4ad1-8de4-6445e1147b7L\/image.png?rendition=image960 2x\" width=\"200\" style=\"width:200px;\" \/><span>Lucas<\/span><\/div>\n<p>At the University of Sydney, one of the country\u2019s oldest and most prestigious, <strong>Lucas<\/strong>, a third-year arts student, told IYSSE campaigners: \u201cAssange\u2019s role in releasing so much information has been to the benefit of the people.
