In 2012, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2012\/dec\/19\/bret-easton-ellis-kathryn-bigelow\">apologized to \u201cHurt Locker\u201d director\u00a0Kathryn Bigelow<\/a> for suggesting that she had only won Oscars because she was \u201ca hot woman.\u201d He has also expressed amusement at widespread Hollywood revulsion toward President Trump, though he has stressed that he is not a Trump fan.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest, 100th episode of his \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/breteastonellispodcast\/overview\">B.E.E. Podcast<\/a>,\u201d available only to paid subscribers, Ellis mused: \u201cNo superhero movie has ever gotten a Best Picture nomination. But believe me, Disney is doing everything in its power to make sure this happens. Even though there is no one out here in La La Land I\u2019ve met who thinks \u2018Black Panther\u2019 is that good as a movie. Yet, as a piece of representation, they are supporting it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ellis recorded the podcast on Jan. 17, before the Oscar nominations were announced, and correctly guessed that \u201cBlack Panther\u201d would score a Best Picture nomination. But he asked: \u201cDoes it really deserve one?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entertainment press and the studio is selling the notion that \u2018Black Panther\u2019 is a grand piece of cinematic art that cannot be ignored. And this notion is being shoved down our throats and we can only smile in disbelief. Or perhaps understand that this is just the moment we\u2019re trapped in. A joke, a hoax.
